Abstract

Dermatophytosis is an example of one of the commonest superficial fungal infections, which traditionally could be easily managed by topical and oral antifungal medications respectively. Moreover, of late, resistance to antifungal agents, and more so terbinafine, poses alarming threats to successful, effective, and efficient management of the condition as of today. The development of resistance by some dermatophyte strains, such as Trichophyton indotineae, poses alarming threats, which include reduced successes and efficiency of management, particularly through successes and successes of returning or relapsing conditions, respectively. Causes of resistance include misuses of antifungal, readily available antifungal prescription from pharmacies, and non-adherence of patient strictness on administration of both topical and oral antifungal agents, respectively.
