ICMJE Conflict Disclosure Form

MJMS follows the ICMJE Recommendations on disclosure of financial and non-financial relationships and activities.

What authors must do

  1. Every author completes the ICMJE Disclosure of Interest form, available at https://www.icmje.org/disclosure-of-interest/.
  2. The corresponding author uploads all completed forms as supplementary files at the time of submission (or at the latest with the revised manuscript).
  3. The manuscript includes a Conflict of Interest statement (for example: "The authors declare no conflict of interest") and a Funding statement listing all funding sources and grant numbers, or stating "This research received no external funding."
  4. Any relationship that arises during review or before publication must be reported to the editor.

What counts as a conflict of interest

  • Financial relationships: employment, consultancies, honoraria, grants, stock ownership, patents, paid expert testimony.
  • Non-financial relationships: personal, political, religious or academic relationships, or competing interests that could be seen as influencing the work.

Editors and reviewers

Editors and reviewers must declare conflicts of interest with any manuscript they are asked to handle and must decline or withdraw if a conflict exists. Editors and editorial board members who submit their own work are excluded from all decisions about it (see the Peer Review Policy).

Failure to disclose

An undisclosed conflict of interest discovered after publication will be handled under the Retraction and Correction Policy and may lead to a correction or a retraction.
