Waiver Policy
MJMS does not want the APC to prevent good research from being published. A full or partial waiver can be requested in the following cases:
| Category | Waiver |
|---|---|
| Corresponding author based in a low-income country (World Bank classification) | Full (100%) |
| Corresponding author based in a lower-middle-income country | Partial, up to 50% |
| Undergraduate or postgraduate students without research funding | Partial or full, case by case |
| Authors facing documented financial hardship | Case by case |
| Invited articles (editorials, invited reviews) | Full (100%) |
How to request a waiver
- The corresponding author requests a waiver at the time of submission, in the cover letter or by email to [email protected], giving the reason.
- Supporting evidence may be requested (for example, a student ID or a statement that the research is unfunded).
- The decision is made by the editorial office / publisher, not by the editors handling the manuscript, and is communicated in writing.
Conditions
- Waiver requests and decisions are kept separate from the peer review process and have no effect on editorial decisions.
- Requests made after acceptance are considered only in exceptional circumstances.
- Authors whose research is funded are expected to pay the APC from their grant where possible.
